Spray tanning has become increasingly popular over the years to to its convenience and ability to provide a sun-kissed glow without traditional tanning beds. Whether you're a spray tanning veteran or trying it out for the first time in honor of National Spray Tanning Day, it's important to know how to properly prepare for your session and how to make the tan last as long as possible.
When it comes to getting a flawless spray, it's all about the timing. It takes around 48 hours for your spray tan to fully develop, which means you won't see the final results right away. That's why it's important to plan ahead if you want to look your best for a special occasion. For example, if you want a gorgeous glow on Saturday night, you should plan to get your spray done on Thursday. That way, you'll have time to fully develop your tan. At Bronze On Tanning Salon, we even celebrate #spraytanthursday to help our clients get the most out of their tans. Check out these before and after pictures to see the amazing transformation our spray tans can offer:

Before Your Spray Tan Session-
Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate
The first step in preparing for a spray tan is to exfoliate your skin. This removes dead skin cells and helps create a smooth, even surface for the tanning solution to adhere to. Use a gentle exfoliator and pay special attention to rough areas such as knees, elbows, and ankles. Bronze On Tanning Salon offers exfoliating scrubs- just ask an employee!

Shave or Wax
It's best to shave or wax 24 hours before your spray tan session. This allows time for any minor skin irritation to subside before the tanning solution is applied. It also helps the solution stick to your skin.
Avoid Moisturizers, Oils, and Deodorants
Avoid using any moisturizers, oils, or deodorants on the day of your spray tan appointment. These products can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution, resulting in an uneven or blotchy tan.
During Your Spray Tan Session-
Wear Loose Clothing
Wear loose-fitting, dark-colored clothing to your spray tan session. This will help to prevent the tanning solution from rubbing off onto your clothing and will allow the solution to fully develop on your skin. (Ladies... leave the bra behind!)
Follow Your Technician's Instructions
Listen carefully to your spray tan technician's instructions. They will tell you how to stand, where to hold your arms, and how to position your body to ensure the tanning solution is applied evenly. The Versa Spa at Bronze On Tanning Salon walks you through the tanning process as you are tanning. For additional information, you can always ask to watch the short instructional video before your tan.
Wear the Proper "Equipment"
Bronze On Tanning Salon provides you with a hair net, foot pads, and a nose filter.
After Your Spray Tan-
Wait Before Showering
It's best to wait at least 6-8 hours before showering after your spray tan session. This allows the tanning solution to fully develop on your skin. Make sure to pat dry with a towel- do not scrub!
Moisturize Your Skin
Once you have taken a shower (after waiting the recommended 6-8 hours), it's important to moisturize your skin regularly. This dramatically extends the life of your tan and helps prevent uneven fading. Bronze On Tanning Salon offers a wide range of moisturizers- ask an employee which one is right for you!
Avoid Exfoliating
Avoid exfoliating your skin after your spray tan session. This can cause the tan to fade more quickly.
In conclusion, spray tanning is a great way to achieve a natural-looking tan. By properly preparing for your session and taking care of your skin afterward, you can ensure your tan lasts as long as possible.
